Kura/School and community
Kura/School Planting Days
Ohaeawai · Pakaraka · Oromahoe · Waitangi River catchment
KWTAT works with Ohaeawai, Pakaraka and Oromahoe primary schools in planting areas across the catchment. The programme gives students practical experience of restoration and is supported by participating landowners.
Education and monitoring
Freshwater Monitoring Wānanga
Ngāwha Marae · Secondary students
At Ngāwha Marae, secondary students took part in hands-on freshwater monitoring with Whitebait Connection. The wānanga introduced practical ways to test and assess river health and explored the relationship between people and river ecosystems.
Restoration
Operations Planting
Riparian restoration · Waitangi River catchment
The operations team plants native vegetation in riparian zones to reduce erosion, strengthen habitat and support water quality. The work includes preparing sites, transporting plants and establishing vegetation in areas connected to the awa.
Saltwater monitoring
Waita Monitoring
Waitangi River mouth · Wider Bay of Islands
Saltwater monitoring focuses on how catchment restoration relates to the shellfish beds at the Waitangi River mouth. The team also looks at shellfish such as kūtai and kina in the wider Bay of Islands.
